In Conversation: Madeline Hawthorne

Earlier this year, KZUU caught up with Madeline Hawthorne at Treefort Music Festival, where she shared insights into her journey as a musician and the inspiration behind her latest album, Tales From Late Nights & Long Drives

Born in New England and now based in Bozeman, Montana, Madeline’s music has a way of capturing the essence of life on the road—perfect for those long drives or introspective late nights.

“It’s the perfect road trip record,” Madeline reflects. “Many of the songs were written while I was on tour, and even the ones written at home in Montana draw from the memories of my travels. This album represents different versions of myself—a woman I was, a woman I could’ve been, and a woman I hope to be.”

Her 2024 independent album has been earning acclaim for its heartfelt lyrics and rich blend of Americana, roots, folk, and rock. Recorded at Bear Creek Studios with producer Ryan Hadlock, the album features standout tracks like “Chasing The Moon,” a song inspired by her late-night drives through the mountain states.

Madeline will be the opening act at “Cougfest” in September. Check out the Student Event Board’s (SEB’s) website for more information on showtimes and ticket purchases.
