Amidst the coldness in downtown Pullman on November 16th, the community found warmth inside Rico’s Pub listening to jazz tunes from local music group, Mallard Blue–a name derived of lead singer’s street of residence and the band’s favorite color, perfectly encompassing the four artists’ whimsy nature. Longstanding member Hannah Snyder (lead singer) began the band five years ago, followed by current members, Dexter Jones (Guitar), Jason Jan (Drums), and Joseph Ferrier (Mandolin).
They made the most of their two-hour set–playing classics from Fly Me to the Moon to The Girl from Ipanema, ending in an ovation each time; The crowd favorite of the night was played via a personal request from Jason Jan, Rockin’ Robin. Through interviewing post-gig, it was learned that they lack a bassist, something that did not taint their set— a result of their perfectly adapted playing style—however, they wish to gain one in the future.
If you wish to step out of the usual rock n’ roll scene and spend time with beautiful improvisation amongst upbeat perky notes, follow @mallardblueband to keep up with their set schedules—You will not be disappointed.
