Meltt Interview

Back in March of 2023, my friends and I travelled nearly 300 miles to go to the legendary Treefort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho. The five-day adventure was jam packed with filming, photography, binge-drinking, gorging, and exploring. There, I was introduced to both new and old bands, all of which I had never seen live. The band that I was most excited to see, however, was Meltt.

I started listening to Meltt, the experimental-psychedelic rock band, in early 2019. I was entranced with their song “Love again” but never really looked into any of their other discography until early 2022. Thats when I delved into the band’s discography, learning about the members and checking out the rest of their songs and EP’s.

It was on a Friday night that I packed up my camera bag and ubered to the El Korah Shrine where I would stand and wait patiently for an interview with Meltt. Thankfully, they were performing a set on stage as soon as I arrived. Their set was phenomenal. Meltt stepped out on stage and looked out across the small sea of people standing closely together, me among them. I was there to do a job and record their set for the radio station, but admittedly, I left the rented video equipment guarded while I got up close to the stage to rock out with everyone else. The venue staff were kind enough to let me sneak past the speakers and film some side shots of the band as well. For my first solo concert experience, it was transcendent. They sounded just like they did in their albums, but they added their own flair to a few of their tracks which made for a more fun and creative experience.

After they had finished their song list, Kaelen (my friend and video operator) and I got to know a little bit about them at their merch table. We followed them through a long corridor with doors on either side until we reached their room. It was a small, rustic looking back room with one bare window looking out towards an alleyway below. We gathered up chairs that were scattered around the room and set them up in a line facing the window. After a quick set up of the video camera and audio check, the boys of Meltt sat down and I pressed record. This is what they had to say:

These lads were absolutely the best. They were kind, down to earth, humorous, and incredibly insightful. I implore you to check out their newest EP, The Absent Sea, out now on Spotify and Apple Music.
