Let’s explore the musical journey of KZUU members – one wrapped at a time.

CEM

Top song of the year: Survive By Space Laces (50 times)

My favorite artists were all Dubstep artists except STRFKR at #2, showing that while I like the hard crazy beats, I still love a calmer vibey sound. Interestingly enough 2/5 top songs were dubstep and the rest were indie. I wouldn’t change a thing about my Spotify Wrapped.

DAVIS

Top song of the year: Helplessly Hoping By Crosby, Stills & Nash (352 times)

I’m pretty satisfied with my Spotify Wrapped this year, however, I’m surprised there aren’t any country artists or songs in my top 5! I guess I started my country binge in late August, and it didn’t stack up against the mellow rock / psychedelia that I have been listening to since the start of the year.

My top artist was Pale Jay, a now pretty popular RNB / Soul artist that has an immaculate falsetto voice. His music is just so groovy and relaxing, it was hard to stray away to any other artist.

This year, it appears that I also went back to old habits, listening to $uicideboy$ and Daft Punk. To me, these artists are timeless and have great replay ability. The one artist that stood out was Meltt, as they had been on my ’22 rotation but saw extended replay before and after Treefort 2023.

MARIA

Top song of the year: Baby by me By 50 Cents (4 times)

The Smiths are my study music cause I know all the lyrics so I’m not distracted by it. Apple music is rigged so none of the others really make sense:( All the ones on my top 5 are just recent listens not most played, except for drake, me and him go way back:p

GARY

Top song of the year: Graduate By Third Eye Blind (36 times)

Uhhhhh you know man, I kinda just like listening to music and this is what happens I suppose

WILL

Top song of the year: Tesla By Lil Yachty (72 times)

Honestly, this year was a Lil Yachty year for me. From the release of his alternative project, “Let’s Start Here.” to the continued drop of single after single that seemed to only top the last, Lil Boat shined incredibly bright for me this year. 4 of my top 5 songs are new Lil Yachty songs, and I have to say I love everything about the way he has approached music this year. I wouldn’t change a damn thing about it.

MEGHAN

Top song of the year: Rock ur World (feat. Fussy) By Knock2 (34 times)

I saw the 1975 last December, and they have pretty much been my top artist every year since ninth grade. This year I got super into EDM again, my top 15 was a combination of stuff I got into this year (Sullivan King, ODESZA, Illenium), and stuff I got into a long time ago (Deadmau5, Madeon, Daft Punk).

ABEL

Top song of the year: Top Dog By Magdalena Bay (56 times)

My year was absolutely dominated by Skrillex’s Quest for Fire album. Besides Skrillex, I listened to a lot of interesting stuff I’m not used to listening to, like hardcore with Hail the Sun and acoustic indie with Alex G. Still over half of my top 100 were dubstep songs. Some things never change.

DAYTON

Top song of the year: Fortunate Son By Creedence Clear Water

My top 5 artists are spot on for my life over the last year. The Beatles and Creedence Clear Water occupy the same realm of soft rock that gives my day energy. I traveled a lot this year and these two artists never let my road trips down. Next up we got Atmosphere. When I’m in a slightly less joyful mood, Best Day, Puppets, and Sunshine by Atmosphere are there to help. Zach Bryan was my therapist while I struggled with relationship problems and loneliness. Lastly, NugLife is my new favorite laid back stoner hip hop artist. When I’m feeling like getting smoking and chilling, NugLife is the go to.

JUSTIN

Top song of the year: I haunt ur dreams By hey, nothing (11 times)

My Spotify wrapped was a little surprising for me this year. George Strait ended up being my number one artist, which deposed Peach Pit of that honor for the first time in three years. This is mainly because I wanted to try to listen to Strait’s entire discography this year, as my dad told me I should try it. While I did find some gems (Unwound and When It Rains it Pours) I do wish it could have been a little different. Charley Crockett was also able to pass up Peach Pit this year, as I tried (unsuccesfuly) to fend off Davis in our community Last.fm charts. I’m not sad about this one though, as Crockett has become one of my favorite artists over the years. At third we come to my favorite band, and the one I’ve mentioned the most in this article: Peach Pit. Kind of a down year for them in terms of my listenership, but I feel like it’s because they didn’t release an album this year and because other artists on my top 5 did. They do currently have one in the chamber though that I am very excited for. My top 5 artists is rounded out by Tyler, the Creator and Mac Demarco. Tyler released the deluxe for Call Me If You Get Lost and I couldn’t get enough of Sorry Not Sorry and Heaven to Me. Mac makes an appearance because me and my buddies had a little too much of some controlled substances and listened to all of One Wayne G in one night. My top 3 songs are all by hey, nothing, an absolutely amazing two-piece from Atlanta who released their debit album this year. The last two are Is That the One by JW Francis, a funky guitar-playing redhead whose made some great tracks recently, and the always classic Bill Withers, with his song Use Me.

ZEKE

Top song of the year: Magnolio By Playboi Carti (16 times)

My stats from this year were actually EXACTLY what I expected them to be. I played just as much Owl City as ever, but I also discovered Blonde by Frank Ocean which has been on loop for several months now. Magnolia being my top song is a consequence of me playing it every single time I drive to Walmart. The stats I’m sharing are from Apple Music, but one album I listened to a lot on YouTube Music is “Little Bird Flies into a Big Black Cloud” by The Microphones. Definitely check it out if you like lofi! I don’t think I’d change anything about my results this year. They do a really good job of summing up my mindset over the past few months.

CADEN

Top song of the year: Nothing Matters By The Last Dinner Party

Just like last year, gotta give props to this year’s Spotify Wrapped—it’s seriously on point. Noticed a definite change in the bands and artists compared to last year, and that’s what I love about Wrapped. Being able to see how my taste has evolved over the years is pretty cool. Got some big names in the mix like Foster The People and Milky Chance, but also repping local talent with Topp, the Spokane artist taking over the PNW. Overall, stoked with how my Wrapped turned out this year. It’s like a snapshot of my growing taste and my occasional obsession with certain artists.
