MD Hot Finds – FEB ’24

Our Music Directors are constantly adding new music to our station preview racks! Each month, they pick their favorite new song to highlight for our listeners. Below are this month's MD Hot Finds...

Davis Raile (Country MD): Whiskey Costs Less – Taylor McCall

Coming off of McCall’s 3rd and most recent album, Whiskey Costs Less is a masterpiece of a song. Featuring slow and powerful instrumentation, McCalls raw voice paints a vivid story of the struggles of love. The chorus particularly stood out to the sad part of me… “whiskey costs less than dinner for two”. I’m sure virtually every adult can relate to going to the bar for shots instead of a dinner (lord knows I do).

This is why I love country so much — the stories are so raw and you can hear it deep within their voices. Taylor McCall is no exception. His work on this album seems to be much more driven by personal experiences.

Angela Jaco (Indie & Jazz MD): Limelight – Blusher

Every once in a while, you find a song that would be absolutely perfect to dance to. I found this group while checking out the artist lineup for the upcoming Treefort Music Festival in Boise, ID. I love all their songs, but Limelight is definitely the biggest earworm. When an artist/group writes a song catchy enough to get stuck in your head, they’re doing something right.

Will Kenyon (Hip Hop MD): Not A Drill – Veeze

Just from the start this track is nothing but heat. The way Veeze combines incredible one-liners with a complex rhyme scheme showcases just how incredible of an artist he is, and is why the song is so effective in my eyes. It is something that will be stuck in your head forever… as Veeze said, “This is not a fire drill, this the real thing!”
